Lixnaw Community First Responders was setup in January 2016. Currently there are over 40 memebers training to deal with early intervention of chest pain, stroke, choking and cardiac arrest. The scheme will work alongside, and be under the control of, the National Ambulance Service (NAS), from whom it will receive its emergency calls. However, the scheme is 100% self funded and must fundraise locally in order to "go live".
8th January 2019, LCFR enters its third year live with the National Ambulance Service. Thank you to everyone who has contributed, in any way, to the establishment and running of this scheme.
Lixnaw CFR are delighted to have been awarded a €500 grant from The Community Support Fund 2018, administered by Kerry County Council. The CSF is designed to assist community and voluntary groups in Kerry.
8th March 2019. Please Note : Lixnaw CFR will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 8:00 pm in the Community Centre. All members are requested to attend.
When an emergency 999 or 112 call is handled by Ambulance Control both the National Ambulance Service (NAS) crew and Community First Responders are simultaneously dispatched. Both services attempt arrive on scene as quick as possible. If the First Responders arrive before the ambulance they deal with the medical emergency while the ambulance is on its way.
Tasks on scene can range from simply reassuring and making the patient feel more comfortable to providing resuscitation and defibrillation; Taking basic observations to clearing and controlling the airway of an unconscious patient. While also using local knowledge to ensure that the Ambulance can find the location quickly.
Survival rates drop about 10% for every minute without defibrillation, few resuscitation attempts succeed if there is no treatment within 10 minutes ... Stroke destroys 2 million brain cells every minute, prompt treatment reduces disability and improves outcomes.
Volunteering with Lixnaw Community First Responders makes you a fantastic ambassador for Lixnaw. The primary role of a volunteer responder is simply to preserve and save lives which is generally rewarding. You can be that person. Feel free to contact us via e-mail info@lixnawCFR.com for more details, or visit us on facebook. We are always looking for new volunteers.
